Cyclonic Damage

by Eco-Friendly-Products

Each year several locations on the Australian East coast suffer from major damage from Tropical Cyclones. The Gale force winds whip up furious Seas and massive tidal surges. Sometimes several metres deep of sand can be stripped from beaches and foreshores in only hours.

The old-fashioned method for repair was making vast rock walls or groynes extending for several hundred Metres along the beach. Also sand pumps would attempt, often with little success, to pump the sand back onto the beach.

Modern techniques are now being used with greatly improved success rates. Eco-friendly and environmentally sustainable materials ensure that the cure is not worse than the problem.

Erosion Control Techniques

Hydro Mulching

Hydromulching or HydroSeeding is a process where grass and other plant seeds are mixed with a slurry of much and organic fertilisers, then sprayed on erosion affected areas, Greatly accelerating the revegetation of erosion areas, hydromulching is being adopted now worldwide. It has been so effective that it is now being used as a preventative technique often in association with Geotextiles.

Geotextile Matting

Hessian, cotton and hemp matting is spread over the erosion affected areas. This ensures that further erosion does not occur while the repair is proceeding. Also provides an anchor point for revegetation to occur. Often used with hydromulching to provide a ground cover within several weeks.
